You might be interested to know that as well as having written a piece about Guinness for The Independent last year, I've also just done a guest spot on Diageo's Guinness website. Feel free to compare and contrast them.
What I will say is that while draught Guinness may be the icon that everyone is familiar with, the Foreign Extra Stout is such a kick-ass beer that if you haven't already tried it, you really should.
Tell me if I'm wrong, but to me thats looks like they've photoshopped a pint of draught Guinness into your hand!?
ReplyDeleteNeil - I cannot tell a lie, that is a 'shop job, solely down to the non-availability of branded Guinness glasses where we did the shoot. Incidentally, I'm sat with my feet in a pair of stacks in that picture, for no other reson than I thought it might be a good idea. I'd had quite a bit of Guinness by that point.
ReplyDeleteCompletely aggree re. Foreign Extra. It's immense!
ReplyDeleteFor years I passed up Foreign Extra Stout, thinking it was essentially a souped-up inferior version of the ubiquitous draught. More fool me...
ReplyDeleteIts also a comedy-size pint glass, or are you actually really small? :)
ReplyDeleteConsidering how ubiquitious and malevolant Diagio are, I'm surprised that they couldn't get an evil designer to doctor the image more effectively. Did you do this potatoshopping yourself, or is it their work ? It's not a bad job for an amateur, but for a pro it looks disappointing.
ReplyDeleteAnyhow. Interesting comments on the black stuff. See, I don't massively like even the FES to be honest, but it certainly is a lot better that draught, which I consider essentially undrinkable. Of course an issue with doing a 'guest' post for a corporate website is if you said that you think they are all Pißwasser, and say so, it will never get published. I'm not saying that you do, but I would never get invited to comment on their official page.
I have yet to try the Nigerian stuff which I hear is 'interesting'.
scissorkicks, rich - I hadn't had it for a few years, and was very impressed.
ReplyDeletepdtnc, saga - the photoshopping was nothing to do with me
